Cabin air filter and blower motor

The filter cleans incoming air; the blower motor pushes conditioned air through the cabin vents.

What it means

Definition

The cabin air filter sits in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning airflow path and removes particles before outside air enters the cabin. The blower motor and fan then move air across the heater core or evaporator and through the selected vents.

Why a buyer cares

What it changes

Weak airflow is not automatically an air-conditioning fault. A restricted filter, a failing blower motor or a vent-control problem can reduce airflow even when the refrigerant circuit is cooling correctly.

In practice

Where you meet it

In routine maintenance schedules and on HVAC estimates for low, noisy or intermittent vent airflow.

Two things that look alike

Not the same as

The blower controls airflow volume; the A/C compressor is part of the refrigerant circuit that changes air temperature.
