Symptoms
Clunks over bumps, a knock when turning the wheel at low speed, uneven tyre wear, or a car that wanders and needs constant small corrections.
Likely cause
Rubber bushings harden and crack with heat and age. Ball joints and tie rod ends lose their grease and develop play. Strut mounts and bearings are a common source of noise when turning.
How should it be checked?
Have the front end inspected on a lift with the wheels off the ground. Play in a joint is visible and measurable; a noise on its own is not enough to identify which part.
How can you check it yourself?
Drive over a rough surface with the radio off and the windows down. Then turn the wheel lock to lock while stationary and listen.

With the car on a lift, is there measurable play in any ball joint, tie rod end or control arm bushing?
