Symptoms
Shuddering when moving off, hesitation between first and second, a jerk in stop-start traffic, or a clutch warning after prolonged low-speed use.
Likely cause
Pulling away and creeping in traffic slip the clutch, and slipping generates heat. Dry-clutch designs shed that heat less well than wet ones, so the same driving pattern produces different wear depending on which type the car has.
How should it be checked?
Establish whether the transmission is a wet or dry dual-clutch, then look for software updates and clutch replacement records. Shift quality issues are sometimes addressed in software before hardware.
How can you check it yourself?
Drive it in traffic, not on the open road. Repeated moving off from a standstill is what exposes the symptom; a highway test drive hides it.
